Until the main story has been completed, Hades' affinity gauge will be locked at 1 heart. In combat, he dons the Helm of Darkness, a tall, regal crown bearing the Gigaros symbol and the shape of three canine skulls. Like Zagreus, Hades's bare feet emit a fiery glow and singe the ground as he walks.īefore fighting Zagreus, he also wears a long, red cape that he discards as the fight begins. There is a flame-colored wreath laurel upon his head. He wears decadent red robes adorned with numerous pieces of golden, gem-encrusted jewelry with a skull motif. Notably, he also possesses a waist-length mustache whose two halves intersect each other across his upper chest, forming the shape of his symbol, Gigaros. He has gray skin, red eyes with black sclera, and long, wavy, black hair. Hades is a massive, hulking figure, significantly larger than any human. He still isn't particularly warm towards him afterwards, but their relationship improves considerably as he is more willing to acknowledge Zagreus' good points and no longer constantly belittles him like he once did. In the end, Hades apologizes to his son and admits that he was a poor father. Persephone, however, is capable of drawing out Hades's gentler side, prompting him to be more fatherly and open about his affection toward Zagreus. He has a short temper, not hesitating to reprimand the other Chthonic gods or enact harsh punishments on mortals. Hades is shown to be obstinate, domineering, and strict, enforcing the many rules of his domain with stern, bureaucratic rigor. Despite being adamant, he can totally defer to any request made by his wife, who seems to know all of his weaknesses and resolves not to reveal to Zagreus about her, in large part to avoid a war and rid Persephone of all the circumstances that bind her son. However, one can observe a healthy attitude, whenever Hades sees something he finds funny, he can't help himself and will momentarily burst out laughing. When he hears from his son that he '' Zeus forgives him'', in a tone of sarcasm and contradiction, Hades goes mad with fury, as it was all his fault. Despite being the main antagonist to Hades, underneath his rough exterior, Hades is well-meaning, fair-minded and takes his role seriously.ĭespite maintaining his composure, Hades has an extremely short temper, especially towards his brother, Zeus. For as long as he can remember, Zagreus has always considered his father to be a rigid, distant, impatient man who is always working, not having time for his own son, belittling and acting harshly. He will constantly berate his son for his naughty attempts to escape, and will ensure that various underworld entities are after him. He is the father of Zagreus, and block any chance of his escape. A terrible place, where he determines the placements and punishments of the dead, listening to the petitions of the shadows that come before him. Lord and Master Hades is tasked with in charge and maintaining order in the underworld. Master Hades, is the god responsible for ruling the dark underworld. His daughter, Melinoë, has promised to slay the Titan and rescue her father. In Hades II, his father Chronos, the Titan of Time has escaped his imprisonment in the depths of the Underworld and captured Hades. Sometime after the events of Hades, he and Persephone manage to conceive a second child- Melinoë. After Zagreus successfully bribes Cerberus with a Satyr Sack to let him by without violence, Hades realizes that he needs to become personally involved and heads off Zagreus at the snowy grounds on the living side of the Temple's archway, having donned his Helm of Darkness and brought the spear that is the basis for his symbol, Gigaros, to vanquish his son and banish him all the way back to the House. He berates Zagreus upon the prince managing to progress from Tartarus to Asphodel, from Asphodel to Elysium, and finally from Elysium to the Temple of Styx. Additionally, he will sometimes order shades to congregate near Zagreus in order to punish him (time trials). He is resentful of Zagreus' repeated attempts to escape the Underworld and greets his returns with scorn and mockery. Meanwhile, Hades seems to have left much of the caretaking and raising of Zagreus to Nyx. He employed Achilles to teach Zagreus fighting and give him more of a "firm direction in life". He is shown, in the Remembrances that play before some escape attempts, to have been strict and often cruel with Zagreus during his childhood. Hades is stern, serious, and dedicated to his work. He is in charge of maintaining order within the Underworld, determining the placements and punishments of the dead, and hearing the petitions of shades that come before him. Hades is the god of the Underworld and of the mineral riches of the earth, the lord and master of the House of Hades, and the father of Zagreus. Though, how was your wanton ransacking of my domain? I told you nobody gets out of here, whether alive or dead.
